Enzymes
Enzymes are
vital to every human being. These organic protein molecules are
responsible for all the chemical reactions that animate living
organisms. Also, they are responsible for the break down,
absorption, and distribution of essential nutrients that fuels the
body. Without enzymes, life would be non existent.
There are
three major classifications of these protein molecules: the
metabolic enzymes, digestive enzymes, and the food enzymes. And
under these classifications are thousands of enzymes that perform
specific tasks. Meaning, there are specific metabolic, digestive,
and food enzymes that only works on a particular task. For example,
the digestive enzyme amylase is only able to break down
carbohydrates into simple sugars.
The human
body is able to naturally produce both metabolic and digestive
enzymes. Food enzymes are derived from raw fruits and vegetables. At
birth, the human body is provided with limited amounts of metabolic
enzymes and digestive enzymes. As the body biologically ages, the
amount of enzymes diminishes. Thus, it needs to be supplemented with
additional enzymes through food.
The body's
ability to produce only a limited number of enzymes is known as
enzyme potential. A person's enzyme potential is dependent on the
genes they inherent from his parents. That is why there are those
